Lately I’ve been cooking my way through my favorite cookbook, The Rookie Cook.
This is a simple, well-seasoned burger that you can cook on the stove – particularly if you’re like me and you live in an upstairs apartment with no grill.
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2 tbsp milk
- 2 tbsp Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 tsp garlic salt (or seasoned salt of your choice)
- 1/4 tsp dried oregano
- 1/4 tsp dried basil
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
- pinch salt and black pepper
- about 1 pound ground beef*
- 4 hamburger buns (I used Kaiser rolls here)
*This makes 4 burgers; I made 3 here and saved the remaining meat.
Combine all the ingredients except the meat and rolls in a large bowl, and mix well.
Add ground beef and mix well.
Form patties from 1/2 cup of hamburger mixture.
Cook patties in a non-stick skillet on medium-high heat for 5 to 6 minutes on each side; or you can cook in oil.
Serve with toasted buns or rolls, and toppings of choice.
Makes 4 servings.
