Baked asparagus with balsamic butter

This recipe is my go-to asparagus recipe I’ve been using for years.

I have altered it slightly from here, based on reviews on that website, as well as my own experience.


  • 1 bunch fresh asparagus, both ends trimmed*
  • cooking spray
  • salt and pepper
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tsp balsamic vinegar

*I didn’t here, but I usually cut the asparagus spears in half.

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.

Arrange the asparagus on a baking sheet coated with cooking spray; season with salt and pepper.

Bake for about 12 minutes. In the meantime, melt the butter.

Here’s the secret to this recipe: slightly burn the butter.

Add the soy sauce and balsamic vinegar and cook for a few more minutes.  If the asparagus still isn’t done, keep the sauce warm by keeping it on the stove top, covered.

Pour sauce over the asparagus.
